Welcome to the Wired Gaming website.

Wired is a Social Gaming Centre.

We say Social Gaming because that is what we're all about - we're not just a gaming centre, we are a gaming community. We know it's not just about the best systems and games, the social experience we have with them is just as important.

Our Members and the Community come first. For that reason we'll be posting regular updates of what we've done (on the premises and systems) and what we plan to do. We want you to comment, suggest and discuss these plans with us (and each other), this way you and our community can help shape Wired.

Furthermore I'd like to thank all our current members for their participation, we've made Wired into a great community and will continue to improve it in the future.

Wired Revolution
Written by Wired Rabid
Thursday, 31 July 2008

A few weeks ago we announced "Wired Evolution", our plans for making Wired better.

Those plans are still in place, but we've decided that evolution just isn't enough.

We have begun work (in the last stages of planning right now) on a complete redesign of the premises. At the moment we are keeping details to ourselves, but to give some idea of how different it will be I have taken three clips from our 3D mockup of the new design:

All going to plan we will be closing Wired for a few days later this month to complete the fitting of the new design.

Wired Evolution
Written by Wired Rabid

Wired is never one to stand still, we're always striving to be better.

Summer is here and as usual that's a quiet time for gamers, but it also gives us a chance to work on improvements.

So here are our plans, which are due to be completed by late August.

As usual this is a community project, if you have suggestions, ideas, want to discuss something or think you can help out in some way then get involved. Smile

Hardware

Xbox 360 Controllers

x360.jpg

We are adding an Xbox 360 Controller to each system, making games such as GRID and FIFA/Pro Evo a reality. Smile

Joysticks

We want to know if people want joysticks. If there is enough interest we can definately get a few, along with some flight simulators.

Software

Master Image v3

The Master Image is the master setup of our operating system (XP), software and games. The Master Image is cloned to each computer, making them all identical (though obviously game keys are usually unique to each).

The Master Image allows us to manage all of our systems as if they are one computer. That means we don't have to add games, patches or fix bugs on 38 systems, just one. It also means we can test that each game is working optimally before cloning, ensuring the systems have a high level of quality.

We have, so far, been through two Master Images. The third (v3) is currently in development.

Wired Gaming System v2

As part of Master Image v3 we are completely rewriting the Wired Gaming System (WGS).

WGS includes the Login System, Games Menu, MemberDrive, Save System etc. Each of these has been rewritten from scratch to fix many bugs (including profiles getting copied to many accounts) and to make them more robust. Some of the major additions are:

- Saves System: The Save System now has a user interface, which shows you what it is currently doing. This includes progress bars which show the game's save files being copied to and from your MemberDrive. The MemberDrive size limit has also been increased from 250MB to 400MB.

- Saves Manager: The Saves Manager allows you to easily manage your save games - you can view how large they are, delete them or import/export them from an external storage device (such as a USB key).

- Extra Menu: There is a new menu on the Games Menu which contains all games which are on the network, ready to install. This means so more Start > Run  and typing update. Smile

Games

Some long awaited games are being included on the new Master Image, including:
- Dark Messiah
- Battlefield 2 Special Forces & Booster Packs
- Warhammer Mark of Chaos

And to go with the new X360 controllers:
- GRID
- Fifa 08
- Pro Evolution 2008
- And more.....

Premises

Decoration

We will be redecorating Wired over the coming weeks, changing colours and lighting (plus more). More on this later.

The Back Room

We haven't set it in stone but we are thinking of converting the back room into a "chill" room of sorts.

This would mean removing most, if not all systems (leaving 3 or 4 in place) adding comfortable seating (bean bags anyone), and perhaps a projector with the Wii connected to it.

We really want your best ideas for the back room, so that we can make it special.

If you got this far, thanks for reading through. Smile

On to the discussion. Smile
